Vista CPX Patient Interface Options
How to connect the exercise stress test subject to the
metabolic measurement system?
This decision is influenced by tradition, personal preference,
money (cost) and instrument flexibility. Most manufacturers of
metabolic measurement systems provide a single option (theirs)
and you have to use it wheather you or your patient likes it or not.
VacuMed offers several options:
1.
Air Cushion Mask. The standard option supplied with the instrument is an assortment of disposable, pre-inflated air-cushion masks that make an excellent seal on almost every face. The cost of $4 per disposable mask may limit the use of this most comfortable mask, although limited re-use is an option.
2. The re-usable silicone mask.
This option is a set of small, medium and large reusable, silicone face masks.
3. The traditional mouthpiece. Some purists still insist that this is the proper way of testing. They believe that a mouthpiece
used with a noseclip is the only way to prevent leaks.
But it's probably the most uncomfortable method for the test subject,
they can't swallow (unless you use our 109NT mouthpiece),
so saliva tends to accumulate in the mouthpiece or associated tubing,
and some suffer from gagging. Long-term use of a mouthpiece,
such as when measuring Resting Energy Expenditure,
makes this option almost useless.

The important message here is that patients don't come
in one-size-fits-all. It is therefore reassuring that the
VacuMed Vista Mini-CPX provides the flexibility of offering several options.
That way you can be sure that you can make every patient and
test subject comfortable.
